Choosing Better Insurance Coverage

Few things are more important than having the right insurance coverage. About ten years ago, I was involved in a near-fatal crash where I experienced traumatic physical and emotional injuries. It was really challenging for me to endure the hospital stay and subsequent physical rehabilitation, but with the help of my medical team and my insurance company, I was able to overcome the challenge and completely recover. This blog is all about the importance of choosing the right insurance plan so that you can get on with your life and enjoy those precious years with your family and your friends.

Details To Check When Choosing A Car Insurance Company

Many companies offer car insurance, so make sure to purchase a policy from a car insurance company that has a good reputation and is reliable. Here's how to find a company that'll be reliable should you ever have to file a claim.

Check Customer Ratings

Customer ratings are one of the best ways to gauge a car insurance company's customer service, as it's customers that have the most information about how well a company treats its customers.

Don't worry about specific customer reviews, because anyone might have a single experience that's good or bad. Instead, look for trends in customer ratings that show a pattern of how a car insurance company treats its customers.

There are a few different places to look for customer reviews and ratings of car insurance companies.

Check with your state's attorney general and the state's better business bureau. Confirm that there are no lawsuits filed by the attorney general against the car insurance company, which would indicate serious customer complaints. Also, make sure that the company has a high rating with the BBB, which is one of the few government-run customer rating agencies.

Look up how highly the car insurance company's customer service is rated on nationwide auto insurance surveys. Several organizations conduct surveys and give awards for customer satisfaction, and you can trust the ratings of these organizations.

Consider How Claims Are Filed

The claims filing process will determine how you interface with the car insurance company if you have to file a claim. Companies might allow customers to file claims by mail, through an app, online, or in person at an agent's office.

None of these claims filing methods is better than all of the rest, but they each have benefits that different drivers might want. Apps and online filing are convenient, while mail filing doesn't require much technical know-how. Meeting in person allows an agent to explain all aspects of the claim and policy.

Consider how you'd prefer to communicate with an insurer about a claim and make sure that your preferred claims filing method is offered by the car insurance company that you're considering.

Ask a Question

As a final, personal test of a car insurance company's customer service, contact the company and ask a question.

Don't worry about the answer to your question, but instead, focus on how long you're on hold, how soon an email is replied to, or how far the drive to an agent's office is. These are the details that will affect how easily you can get questions answered when you have them.
